What is an NFT and what is NFT Art?
NFT stands for Non-fungible token meaning that each one is unique, other cryptocurrencies are considered fungible since you could have one or one thousand and they will all be identical to each other.
Every NFT has a digital signature that makes it impossible for them to be exchanged for or equal to one another (hence, non-fungible).
How do NFT's work?
Most NFT's are currently part of the Ethereum blockchain but more art galleries are showing up on different and new blockchains ever day. NFT's are very similar to a regular coin based crypto currency but have a unique identifier for each piece minted making them "non-fungible". You can however have
NFTs exist on a blockchain, which is a distributed public ledger that records transactions. You’re probably most familiar with blockchain as the underlying process that makes cryptocurrencies possible.
An NFT is created, or “minted” from digital objects that represent both tangible and intangible items, which could be Art, GIF's, Videos, Collectibles, Shoes, Music, and even tweets. Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey sold his first ever tweet as an NFT for more than $2.9 million.
Essentially, NFTs are like physical collector’s items, only digital. So instead of getting an actual oil painting to hang on the wall, the buyer gets a digital file instead.
Showing off your Digital NFT Collection
If you buy NFTs, you will need a digital wallet to store them.
The wallet itself does not hold the NFT, but rather contains “private keys'', which are simply digital passwords leading to where your collection is located on the blockchain.
